Valentine's gifts for your techie sweetie

|||||

Valentine's Day and tech/science/geekery mix together like oil and water. Or so the conventional wisdom goes, right? Well we here at TextNow think it's time to disrupt that Valentine's stereotype as hard as we disrupted the telecom industry. Just because you're in tech doesn't mean you can't get some love.

So, to help that along, here's a list of some Valentine's gifts befitting the STEM nerd in your life.

Telepathy Friendship Lamps (Amazon, $170)

I absolutely love this idea. The Telepathy Friendship lamps are a delightfully simple idea - give your Valentine one, and you keep the other. Touch your lamp and your friend's lamp lights up in same color, to let them know you're thinking about them. Mind you it's a little bit of a misleading product name because the lamps work with USB power over WiFi, and not telepathy. Maybe the 2023 models will crack that minor problem.

QFX RETRO-39 Shoebox Tape Recorder (Amazon, $33.15)

Look, anybody can make a Spotify playlist. But a mixtape takes care, planning and dedication. This throw-back to old school tech will hearken you back to the days of meticulously crafting a mixtape to tell your Valentine exactly how you feel. (Pencil not included.)

Dual heart iPhone Charging Cable (Kikkerland, $17.00)

They say that relationships are a constant power struggle. Well not with this cute dual-charger from Kikkerland. Charge two iPhones off the same cable, thereby giving power to both of you equally! I'm not gonna lie, this might have saved at least one of my past relationships.

It Takes Two (Available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC)

There's been a strong resurgence of local co-op games (aka "couch co-op") games over the past few years, games designed for two players to play together, towards a common goal. It Takes Two is a perfect one for Valentine's day, as you and your partner play a married couple on the verge of divorce who, through the game's challenging platform gameplay rekindle their relationship with both themselves and their daughter Rose. It's a truly unique video game that uses its gameplay to underscore the importance of how any relationship presents its own set of challenges. Plus it's super fun.

Pixel light-up dice (Kickstarter)

High tech dice? Aren't dice just, you know, dice? Not according to the makers of Pixel. Pixel dice are "packed with LEDs" Which mean they light up like Christmas lights. Which is only slightly high-tech. But they are also Bluetooth compatible, which means they sync with online gaming sites like D&D Beyond and roll20, and (of course) Pixel's  own app, where you can control the colors and flashing of the LED lights and - get ready for this - will keep records of your rolls for later analysis. Oh and they charge up in the case they come with. I think I just talked myself into buying these.
