Top Pop Culture Picks for August 2022

Every month the TextNow blog will be taking a look at what movies, TV, music, and other fun stuff we’re looking forward to. What’s on your pop culture radar?

TV

HBO is gearing up for House of The Dragon, their Game of Thrones prequel that promises more Targaryen family intrigue and succession fights than the actual show Succession, but what we are looking forward to even more is Netflix’s truly wild looking adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s hugely popular and influential dark fantasy comic Sandman. If nothing else, they’ve nailed the look of the comic in all its dark gothy magnificence.

Movies

Both Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train and the satirical slasher pic Bodies Bodies Bodies look promising, but our pick is George Miller’s epic sounding Three Thousand Years of Longing, with Idris Elba as a djinn (genie) and Tilda Swinton as his captor. While it sounds suspiciously car-chase free, George Miller is (in my opinion) one of the world’s best directors, as proven by the six-minute standing ovation the Cannes audience gave it earlier this year.

Music

The TextNow metalheads are eagerly awaiting the new record from groove-metal merchants Lamb Of God, Omens. Meanwhile our aging Gen Xers are very much looking forward to a new collection of remixes from Madonna called Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones.

Stay tuned for next month as we dive into September’s releases!
