💩's Expensive: Cutting back the budget

Thanks to a recent survey from TextNow, we've learned a lot about the average person's spending priorities in 2022. And while the big (if unsurprising) takeaway was that everyone’s bills are too high these days, there were some other interesting insights as well.

One thing that stuck out: When it comes to budgeting money, the first thing to go is premium products and services. As of this writing, almost 1 in 2 (45%) Americans no longer purchase premium products that used to be a part of their shopping routine. And more than 1 in 4 (27%) say organic products are no longer a part of their shopping routine, as they once were.

About half the respondents said they cut out premium products from their regular shopping routines, and we found around 32% of the members of younger generations (millennials and Gen Z) have stopped buying organic products that were formerly part of their shopping routines – products that usually have corresponding premium prices.  

Delaying major purchases – from plane tickets to furniture – is a common trend. But one of the most eye-popping stats involves younger generations: 51% of Gen Z and 44% of Millennials are holding off on purchasing new smartphones and/or other new electronics.
