Bring the Spa to Mom This Mother's Day

This year Mother’s Day is likely going to be like no Mother’s Day you’ve ever experienced before. Unless you currently live with your mom, and even if you do, your options for how to spoil her this year may be limited. Social distancing guidelines and quarantine closures mean no going out for Sunday brunch at your favourite local spot, no getting the whole family together under one roof for dinner, and in some cases, you may not be able to see her in person at all.

The good thing is, spoiling mom from afar to let her know how much she means to you is still possible! Here are some suggestions for how you can help your mom feel pampered and appreciated this Mother’s Day:

Face mask. This seems like an obvious place to start when thinking of a spa day. A nice moisturizing facial is a quintessential spa treatment and an easy at-home option for mom. Head to your local drugstore to pick one up, or if you’re feeling adventurous you can try one of these DIY options.

DIY mani-pedi. If you live with your mom and you’re feeling generous you can go all out with a full service mani-pedi. If you don’t live with mom, or maybe just don’t want to get that close to her feet, you could always provide the supplies for her to do it herself. A new pumice stone, some cuticle oil and new nail polish should do the trick.

Bubble bath
Pedicure

Bath bomb — and bath pillow. A nice bubble bath with a fresh smelling bath bomb is a great way to relax and get some me-time. If you know your mom likes taking long baths I’d also recommend a bath pillow. There’s nothing worse than your body getting to unwind while developing a kink in your neck from the hard bathtub ledge.

Pampering doesn’t have to be all about physical care either. Here are some ideas that might help your mom’s mental well-being as well:

Tea being poured
Candles

Assorted tea kit. Consider more herbal teas that are either low in caffeine or have no caffeine to help mom unwind. If you’re feeling really generous, maybe even get her a new tea pot or mug to go with it.

Candles. A nice calming scent is a quick and easy way to feel more zen and peaceful. Scents like lavender, peppermint and cedar wood are popular spa go-to’s.

Soothing soundtrack. Don’t overlook the audible sense when working to create a relaxing, spa-like space for your mom. A simple — and potentially free — way to round out her at-home spa is with a soft and soothing soundtrack. Compiling a serene soundtrack on Spotify or Apple Music will be the perfect complement to any of the other spa activities she chooses to fill her day with.
